Pilkington K Glass makes double-glazing more effective

Pilkington K LogoDouble glazing units with Pilkington K Glass offer a total solution. It provides superior insulation, making the inner pane of the window much warmer, eliminating cold spots. It also provides better insulation in conservatories. Typically, it will keep an unheated conservatory comfortable for a greater part of the year than ordinary double glazing, allowing you to make the most of you conservatory all year round.

Global Windows fits Pilkington Glass as standard on all products supplied.

Low emissivity coating - how does it work?

You are probably wondering how microscopic coating on a pane of glass can make such a big difference to its performance. This is how it works.

The glass in your windows absorbs heat then radiates it again on the colder, outside surface. Pilkingon K Glass has what is called low emissivity coating on the surface that faces into the air gap of the double glazing unit.

Low emissivity means that the coating is a poor radiator. The heat absorbed by the coated glass is inhibited from radiation across the air gap and then from the outer pane to the cold outside world. Instead the heat is reflected back into the room by the coating, which works in a similar way to a sheet of reflecting foil placed behind a central heating radiator, bouncing the heat back into the room.

Thermally efficient - Complying to Part L Building Regulations

Recent changes to the Government Building Regulations aim to improve the thermal efficiency of all buildings, and set out mandatory requirements for any replacement windows and windows in new structures.

With Pilkington K Glass incorporated into a suitable insulating unit, you can be sure your windows easily meet these standards.

Every genuine piece of Pilkington K Glass carries the “OK” sticker – but its presence can also be confirmed by the use of a coating detector which unit manufactures or installers should have available.

Changes to building regulations now mean that any new or replacement windows should incorporate a low emissivity glass such as Pilkington K Glass.
